Enrolling the double degree programme of ESB Business School and spending the last half of my undergraduate studies at UMPSA in Malaysia, a country which I had never been before and knew little about, was not an easy decision, but a decision I would always want to repeat. Being exposed to a wide variety of cultural influences in a wonderful, beautiful country as well as learning and living at FIM has afforded me invaluable life lessons and skills I would not want to miss.

The Business Engineering programme at FIM initially started in Germany and has been facilitated in line with hands-on, practical styles, which have been the reason for me to study in the program. Being relatively new, I am so grateful for the opportunity to pioneer the program and proud to have completed it – it was not always easy, but the experiences are absolutely precious to me.

The Business Engineering programme is a platform for students to extend their intercultural experience, build professional skills, and learn to live independently. In this programme, you have the chance to meet and mix with other international students and, therefore, be able to expand your network around the globe.

During the journey, you will be studying and living in a different environment, particularly in culture and language. If you are a person who is willing to learn new things every day, enjoy the freedom and prepare to live outside of your comfort zone, then, this programme is for you.

I come from the Orang Asal tribe known as Semai. Our life in the post is pretty decent, but having an Automotive Engineering German dual degree from UMPSA has changed my life in so many ways - the ultimate joy coming from making my parents proud.

I recall the day I was being called for an interview by a German multinational company. Unfortunately, I had no money to attend the interview. It was too embarrassing for me to ask for money from my mother; hence I forwent that opportunity. But I know I am uniquely educated and my true resources are my brain and my muscles. Not long after, I could practice my professionalism. I am now an engineer at TF-AMD, Penang and my parents are proud of me. That’s my story, how’s yours?

Before I left Matriculation, it’d always struck me how I could make my parent proud with my education path selection. Though there were so many uncertainties back then, one thing I was certain of was my passion for mathematics and physics.

My nine-semester journey through the Automotive Engineering German dual degree programme at UMPSA had been incredibly enriching. I spent 6 months as an intern in Continental Automotive Component, 1 semester conducting an internationally funded team-oriented project study, and 1 semester studying in Karlsruhe, Germany. All of these tribute to my parents. That’s my story, what’s yours?
